Annadiscusses Mrs. Crossmore and unity. She hope he recieved her bulky letter. She hopes that Phelan and Bender will help with the acceptances at Mills. She is sending a few pages of Gerda's stuff and she is teeling Mr D you are workin g on your travels. Mrs C says he is planning to go to Cleveland and Anna hopes to see him before then.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
